Word of the Day: Gasconade
Definition: Extravagant boasting; arrogant bragging.
• A rare, punchy word with comic undertones.
• Captures Trump’s constant need to puff himself up — whether about tariffs, NATO, or his supposed power to stop wars.
The Example: Trump’s Truth Social Post (September 13, 2025)
“I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA… This is not TRUMP’S WAR (it would never have started if I was President!), it is Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s WAR. I am only here to help stop it, and save thousands of Russian and Ukrainian lives (7,118 lives lost last week, alone. CRAZY!). If NATO does as I say, the WAR will end quickly, and all of those lives will be saved!” — Donald J. Trump, Truth Social, 9/13/25
This is gasconade in pure form: a theatrical display of boastful authority, dressed up as magnanimity.
DSM-5-TR Behavioral Overlay
Disclaimer: This is a descriptive framework, not a diagnosis.
Recent stressors intensify the pattern:
• Epstein Files — The release of Trump’s signed birthday note to Epstein (2003) and mounting subpoenas have placed him high-pressure under scrutiny.
• Charlie Kirk Assassination — The killing of a loyal ally creates both personal grief and political instability in Trump’s base.
• South Korea / Hyundai Raid — ICE agents detained and deported South Korean engineers training U.S. workers, sparking a diplomatic backlash and economic fallout.
• Tariff Battles — Trump’s push for 50–100% tariffs on China and sanctions on NATO allies reflects mounting trade tensions.
• Government Shutdown Threat — Looming budget fights over health care and foreign aid add pressure at home.
Against this backdrop, Trump’s gasconade is not random bluster. It is a maladaptive coping strategy and a deliberate confidence game, honed over decades.
Trait Expressions
• Grandiosity (Narcissistic Traits): The boast that the war “would never have started if I was President” inflates his role into savior of history.
• Need for Admiration: Addressing “ALL NATO NATIONS AND, THE WORLD” highlights the performative need for validation.
• Entitlement: His demand — “If NATO does as I say” — frames obedience as the only path to peace.
• Devaluation of Others: By branding it “Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s WAR,” he absolves himself and heaps blame on rivals.
• Manipulativeness: The phrase “Just say when?” creates the illusion of choice, masking domination.
• Callousness: Casual reference to “7,118 lives lost last week, alone. CRAZY!” reduces tragedy to a talking point.
Why Gasconade Matters Now
Trump’s gasconade works because it combines performance and belief. On one level, he knows it is a con — vranyo, a confidence trick, designed to dazzle and overwhelm. On another, he seems to genuinely believe he is entitled to bend reality. That duality makes him even more effective: he sells the lie with the conviction of truth.
And the human psyche is vulnerable to it. Research in psychology shows that confident, repeated assertions shape perception, regardless of their factual basis. Each boast plants the suggestion that Trump is the only indispensable figure, the only one with answers. Whether or not he believes it doesn’t matter — the point is that his audience does.
Call to Action
We can’t shrug this off as more bluster. We must name the gasconade, expose the record, and demand accountability. That means challenging lies directly, keeping pressure on institutions to release the Epstein files, refusing to let tariffs and shutdown threats be reframed as “deals,” and calling out the manipulation in real time.
Trump’s gasconade thrives in silence. The antidote is truth, repeated, documented, and amplified louder than the boast.
Reflection
Gasconade feeds on our doubt. Truth starves it. Speak plainly. Speak often. Speak louder than the boast.

I agree that calling out Trump‘s lies and distortions is important. Now, if only we could get the mainstream media to do its job, we would all be much better off. MSM seldom challenges Trump in spite of his constant barrage of lies.
Such a perfect word! Kinda reminds me of gaslighting.
