Trump’s Malign Homunculus
Charlie Sykes gave us the perfect phrase: Trump’s malign homunculus. And he was talking about Stephen Miller.
The description sticks because Miller isn’t simply another White House aide, policy staffer, or speechwriter. He is something stranger and darker — the little man crouched inside Trump’s head, pulling the levers of cruelty.
Trump is all appetite and ego. He rages, postures, demands, consumes. But Miller? Miller is the miniaturized operator. The one who translates tantrum into policy. The one who takes a sneer or a slur and builds it into a law, a regulation, a wall, a ban.
That is why the metaphor of the homunculus works so well. In neuroscience, the cortical homunculus distorts the body, making the hands and mouth grotesquely oversized, because that’s where the brain devotes its energy. In Trump’s case, Miller is the grotesque distortion of ideology — shrunken in imagination, bloated in hate, out of proportion to his actual size or influence.
He is not a full-scale architect of governance; he is a grotesque distortion of one. But through Trump, his little-man malice became national policy. Immigration raids. Family separations. Muslim bans. A bureaucratic war against the very idea of pluralism. Miller’s handiwork is the lasting scar tissue of the Trump years.
And he is still out there. Trump may lose his train of thought in rallies, may drift into incoherence, may be overtaken by age and bluster. But Miller remains the malign homunculus, ready to whisper again, to draft again, to distort the body politic all over again.
That’s the real danger. Trump provides the vessel. Miller provides the poison.
Trump’s malign homunculus isn’t going away. And we would be foolish to underestimate how much destruction a “little man” can cause when his host is desperate to cling to power.

Especially one who thinks supporting people of color makes Democrats domestic terrorists. 🙄
dRumpf is a malignant narcissist, a product of genetics & environment but Miller is pure evil that has never had a redeeming moment in his life. Raised with privilege, never went hungry or homeless but has spewed hate from a young age. Just evil.
