The Bucket of Water Was Never Meant for the Witch

When Dorothy throws the water in The Wizard of Oz, it isn’t an attack. She’s not aiming to vanquish evil. She’s trying to save her friend—the Scarecrow—whose straw body is seconds away from going up in flames. It’s only after the water splashes the Wicked Witch that everyone sees the truth: this terrifying force of power and control was never as strong as she pretended to be.

She melts. Just like that.

It wasn’t a sword, a plan, or a revolution. It was a bucket of water. The simplest possible act.

And then there’s the ending. Dorothy, desperate to return home, learns she’s had the power all along. Those ruby slippers (silver in the book) carried the magic. But she had to take the journey first—through fear, confusion, and illusion—to believe it.

And it was Toto who pulled back the curtain. Not a hero or a general. A dog. A little dog who wasn’t fooled.

That’s where we are now.

People have lost hope. They say, “It’ll never happen. Not with this Congress. Not with this Supreme Court.”

Well—yeah. We do have this Congress. And this Supreme Court.

But if that’s the only lens you’re looking through, you’ll never see the open door.

The illusion of power is fragile. It’s a curtain and a voice modulator. It’s a stage trick.

Everyone—no matter how big or how small—needs to step forward and do something now.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be true.

That’s how you melt a witch.

That’s how you get home.
