Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien—Don’t Let Perfect Be the Enemy of Good

Voltaire said it best—

“Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien.”

The perfect is the enemy of the good.

And right now, that truth has never been more urgent.

We are in the midst of a constitutional crisis.

Not because democracy failed—but because too many of us were waiting for it to be flawless.

Yes, our system is flawed.

Yes, it’s frustrating.

But if we toss it aside because it isn’t perfect, we hand the keys to those who want to break it permanently.

Trump—now president again—is not waiting around for perfect. He’s busy:

• Undermining courts

• Consolidating power

• Weaponizing federal agencies

• Shredding norms and silencing dissent

He’s counting on our disillusionment.

He wants us to believe it’s too late to fix anything.

That the only choices are dictatorship or despair.

But democracy doesn’t need to be perfect to be worth fighting for.

It just needs people who refuse to give up.

This moment isn’t perfect.

Our leaders aren’t perfect.

Our system certainly isn’t perfect.

But it’s still ours.

We still have the tools—our voices, our votes, our values.

We still have the good.

So don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

And silence is the enemy of democracy.
