False Sense of Immunity: They believe the boot will land on someone else’s neck. That they, somehow, will be spared because they cheered loud enough. They don’t realize that every dictatorship eventually cannibalizes its own supporters. Loyalty never guarantees safety.
Propaganda Rebrands Tyranny as Patriotism: Words are powerful weapons. Today’s authoritarian movements don’t always use the word “dictator.” They say “strong leader,” “law and order,” “take our country back.” The reality behind those slogans? Crushing freedom, dismantling rights, and ruling through fear.

If you’re talking to someone who flirts with the idea of dictatorship, here’s a simple but devastating question you could ask:
“If the dictator you trust today dies tomorrow, and someone you hate takes their place, would you still want a system where one person has all the power over your life?”
