Cruelty Is the Point — And Vance Thinks It’s Funny

When Donald Trump used AI to create a grotesque video — racial caricatures of Hakeem Jeffries, false words stuffed into Chuck Schumer’s mouth — it wasn’t satire. It was cruelty disguised as entertainment.

And when asked about it, Vice President JD Vance defended the video: “Just the president having fun.” He went further: “What he thinks is funny, I think is funny too.”

This isn’t harmless laughter. It’s a window into character.

Cruelty as Humor

Clinically, this is the hallmark of a narcissistic-authoritarian mindset: contempt presented as charm. The joke is never just a joke. It is a weapon — designed to demean, to humiliate, to turn other people into punchlines.

When Vance shrugs off racist AI mockery as “fun,” he is showing:

• Lack of empathy — other people’s dignity doesn’t register.

• Entitlement — cruelty becomes his prerogative.

• Devaluation — opponents reduced to caricatures.

• Collusion — aligning himself with Trump’s worst instincts instead of pushing back.

This is not levity. It is leadership through degradation.

The Almost-President

Remember: this is the man a heartbeat away from the presidency. An “almost-president” who frames mockery as leadership and humiliation as entertainment.

What makes it dangerous is not only that he fails to see consequences. It is that he is proud of not seeing them — and willing to laugh at the damage done to others.

What You Can Do About This

The danger of “cruelty as humor” is that it normalizes itself when left unchallenged. The antidote is naming it, reframing it, and refusing to let it pass as harmless.

• Call it what it is: This isn’t a joke. It’s cruelty.

• Flip the script: Ask, What if Democrats had produced racist AI videos? Republicans would call it treason. Apply their own standard back to them.

• Stay disciplined: Repeat the words — arrogant, entitled, cruel. Don’t let them rebrand it as harmless “fun.”

• Push accountability: Demand coverage that treats AI disinformation as disqualifying, not quirky. Pressure representatives, media, and civic groups to call it out.

We can’t fight cruelty by laughing along. We fight it by refusing to let it masquerade as humor.
