America, We Have Cancer: Malignant Trumpius Fascistioma
The Science of Escalation
Abuse always escalates. This is not rhetoric — it is science. In the clinical literature, the pattern is established and unmistakable. Abuse begins with the cutting joke at someone’s expense. Then it grows: the name-calling, the shove, the slap in front of family, the punch, and finally the weapon.
Every abuser escalates until they are stopped. There are no exceptions. It’s terminal if untreated.
From the Personal to the Political
Trump is not an outlier. He is the pattern made visible in the political realm. He is an abuser, and his administration is filled with abusers — scofflaws who respect neither law nor justice, guided only by what they can get away with. Their goal is not to do right, but to avoid being caught.
The cycle we know from domestic violence is repeating itself on a national scale. Trump insults, humiliates, degrades, and then deploys force. Each time, the escalation grows. Left unchecked, it will not stop.
Let me repeat that. It will not stop. It will kill us if we don’t stop it.
Now pause for a moment and let that sink in.
Malignant Trumpius Fascinoma
Trump is not just a symptom — he is the malignancy itself. Clinically, carcinoma refers to a cancer that originates in the epithelial tissue, the lining that protects the body. Once corrupted, it spreads rapidly and erodes the very barriers meant to defend us.
Trump is malignant Trumpius Fascistioma: an abnormal, aggressive growth that thrives on spectacle and metastasizes by undermining every safeguard in the body politic. He infects our institutions, weakens the immune system of democracy, and spreads his pathology through every channel of governance.
America No Longer Recognizable
This is no longer a warning about what might happen. It is happening. Our country is no longer recognizable.
We once looked at images from abroad — coups, mobs, collapsing parliaments, leaders ruling by threat and force — and told ourselves, that’s over there. We believed America was immune.
But it is here, and it is here in full force.
Like a cancer we believed cured from our civic body in the 1950s — segregation, fascism, authoritarianism — it has only been hiding and growing.
Now it has metastasized. And like any untreated cancer, it threatens to consume the entire body.
What We Must Do
The science is clear: abuse never corrects itself. It escalates. That is why we must do everything within our power to stop this — peacefully, lawfully, and urgently.
But removing the malignancy is not enough. Any oncologist will tell you that after the tumor is cut away, the body needs therapy to recover. The immune system must be rebuilt. The organs must heal. Without that repair, the disease can return.
America will need the same.
Truth
Sunlight is the first therapy. Every authoritarian project begins with lies, because lies are the soil where abuse takes root. We must drag the falsehoods into daylight, expose the distortions, and restore an honest history. This means confronting the propaganda of the present and the willful amnesia of the past. Truth-telling is the immune response of a healthy democracy. Without it, the cancer regrows.
Justice and Community
The next therapy is rebuilding the organs of our civic body. Law, education, justice, media, and community must be repaired so they can function as protective systems again. Justice must not be wielded selectively but applied equally. Education must equip citizens with critical literacy, not feed them manufactured ignorance. Media must serve the public, not oligarchs. And communities must be empowered to connect across divides, because isolation is the weakness abusers exploit.
Health
A healthy democracy cannot exist in a sick nation. We must build a genuine health care system, not the disease-management industry that profits from keeping Americans unwell. The medical-industrial complex thrives on repeat customers of illness, not citizens capable of living long, resilient lives.
If we are serious about healing, we must design a system that promotes prevention, wellness, and resilience. Public health must be a cornerstone of civic health. A democracy built on a chronically ill population is a democracy already half-defeated.
Restoring the Immune System
Truth, justice, community, and health are the therapies America needs. Together they form the immune system of democracy. They are how we resist recurrence, how we prevent metastasis, how we give the body politic the strength to withstand future attacks.
This work will require vigilance, accountability, and collective moral will. And we must pursue it with the aggression that Republicans use to attack — but with the ethics, honesty, and discipline that come from standing on the side of law, truth, and democracy.
The work is not only removal. The work is survival and healing.
How do I know this? Because I have lived it. I survived years at the hands of a malignant narcissist, and I endured metastatic breast cancer. I know abuse when I see it, and I know malignant cancer when I see it.
And our country is at the mercy of both.
These forces do not go away easily. They demand an unrelenting fight.
The only path forward is the will to win and the resolve that failure is not an option.
I’m still standing.
I’m still fighting.
The question is — will you join me?

— Joyce

Excellent metaphor, Joyce; and an alarming one.
Joyce, you have hit the nail on the head. Aggressive cancer treatment is needed as it was disbelieved for so long. Now it symptoms include smashing a whole apartment building in Chicago, using helicopters and masked troops to roust EVERYONE out, clothed or unclothed, and to put children in zip ties. Arrest first, question them later. People were arrested on the suspicion of being brown, and black.
Stage 4 cancer, needs radical treatment. That treatment must through the courts, suing for wrongfully detaining citizens for amounts to stop and frisk.
